Georgia Southern vs UL Monroe College Basketball Betting Preview

I project the Warhawks as just 9.25-point home underdogs, so I’d be willing to take a shot with them at +12.5 or better.

College Basketball Projections, Picks: Tanner McGrath's Power Ratings & Score Model Image

While it’s terrifying to back a UL Monroe team that has one Division-I win on the season against the nation’s worst team (66-52 over Mississippi Valley State), I do wonder if the market is starting to get a little too low on the Warhawks — they’ve covered six of their past 10.

At the same time, the market might be a bit too high on Georgia Southern, which has failed to cover against the closing number in five straight games.

It’s also worth mentioning that this will be the Eagles’ first road game since Jan. 10, as they’ve played four straight games at home. That could prove important for a team that ranks 253rd nationally in Haslametrics’ Away From Home metric (-1.00).

From a schematic perspective, the Warhawks will play a lot of zone and press defense, and the Eagles haven’t fared well against either (.89 zone PPP, 24th percentile; .76 press PPP, 8th percentile).

I don’t trust them to score, but I’m banking on the Warhawks mucking it up and keeping it within two touchdowns as a home ‘dog.

My Pick: UL Monroe +12.5 or Better
