The New York Yankees aren't off to the start they'd hoped for, especially offensively. New York is 15-11, which is far from terrible, but it enters play Friday in fourth place in the American League East.
New York's offense is missing Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson and Harrison Bader with that trio all on the injured list. Without them for much of the season so far, New York enters play Friday 20th in all of baseball in runs per game at 4.31. That's not going to get it done most nights, although New York is on a two-game win streak after an offensive explosion in Minnesota and another great performance from Gerrit Cole against Texas.
However, superstar Aaron Judge left Thursday's game due to injury and New York will face Rangers ace Jacob deGrom tonight. Do they have any chance if Judge isn't able to play?
The Parlay (+474):
- Jacob deGrom Over 8.5 Strikeouts
- Nathaniel Lowe 2+ Total Bases
- Rangers -1.5
Same-Game Parlay – Yankees vs Rangers
Jacob deGrom Over 8.5 Strikeouts
deGrom has gone over this number in three of his five starts this year and he left one of those games due to injury. With his injury history that could happen again, but we're not counting on it.
deGrom has a ridiculous 42% strikeout percentage this season. The Yankees' lineup is a heavy strikeout team as New York's projected lineup has a combined 25% strikeout percentage against right-handed pitching this season. Also they can't necessarily count on Judge to be in the lineup tonight and this lineup was mostly punchless even with him available.
I have deGrom projected for nine strikeouts here to kick off the same game parlay.
Nathaniel Lowe 2+ Total Bases
Clarke Schmidt is coming off his best start of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays. Schmidt completed five innings for the first time in five starts this year and only allowed three runs while striking out eight batters.
Still, Schmidt has struggled mightily with left-handed hitters like Nathaniel Lowe this year. Schmidt has allowed a .410 ISO to left-handed hitters this year and Lowe has a .230 ISO against right-handed pitching.
A double or two singles will get the job done for us on the second leg of this same game parlay.
Rangers -1.5
The Yankees beat the Rangers by two last night as Gerrit Cole defeated Andrew Heaney. Tonight, the pitching matchup is essentially the inverse and favors the Rangers heavily. Texas is also at home and New York will likely be without last year's American League MVP.
With deGrom on the mound against this watered-down Yankees lineup and Schmidt having to face a lineup with mostly left-handed hitters, I have to like the Rangers in a big way in this spot. Taking them on the run line gets us the odds we like for a same game parlay.
