On Tuesday, we travel to Los Angeles to find value in a NRFI between two American League teams: the Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland Athletics.
The Angels will send out Patrick Sandoval. Coming into today, Sandoval is 19-6 to the NRFI, with an impressive 10-2 home NRFI split.
Sandoval performs very well against teams’ lead-off hitters. Against 64 lead-off hitters faced in 2022, he’s only allowed 11 hits for a .172 average, including zero home runs.
Here's how Sandoval has done in the past against some of these Oakland hitters:
- Tony Kemp: 0-for-5
- Sean Murphy: 2-for-10
- Chad Pinder: 1-for-9
- Stephen Vogt: 0-for-2
Oakland achieves the NRFI on the road this year 70% of the time. The A's are also coming into Tuesday riding a hot 8-2 NRFI streak.
The Athletics will counter with James Kaprielian. Coming into today — like Sandoval — Kaprielian has performed very well to the NRFI. He is 18-5 to the NRFI, with a 10-3 road NRFI split.
Kaprielian does particularly well when facing batters the first time through the order. Against 190 batters, he’s only allowed 34 hits, which is suitable for a .179 average.
Here's how some of the Angels' hitters have done in the past against Kaprielian:
- Taylor Ward: 2-for-9
- Max Stassi: 2-for-10
- Luis Rengifo: 2-for-10
- Shohei Ohtani: 1-for-12
The Angels hit the NRFI 72% of the time this season. In comparison, their offense hasn’t been hitting as well as it was in the middle of the season.
Bet on these two proficient NRFI pitchers to toss a scoreless first inning in California.
As always, six outs to glory!
