Tony Sartori’s Blue Jays vs Mariners Preview
Toronto hands the ball to right-hander Kevin Gausman in its attempt to break the 2-2 series deadlock. The veteran right-hander put together yet another strong campaign in 2025, posting a 3.59 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through 32 starts.
His underlying metrics were equally impressive, as Gausman finished in the top half of the league in xERA, xBA, strikeout rate and walk rate. Gausman’s success has carried over into the postseason.
Through two starts, he boasts a 2.38 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. That success is likely to continue against Seattle, a team he has dominated throughout his career.
Across 12 meetings, Gausman owns a 2.94 ERA and 1.14 WHIP.
He should also receive plenty of run support against right-hander Bryce Miller, who takes the mound for the Mariners.
Through 56 combined plate appearances against Miller, this current Blue Jays roster boasts a .299 xBA, .521 xSLG and .380 xwOBA. These metrics align with Miller’s struggles this season.
In 18 starts, the right-hander finished with a 4-6 record, 5.68 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. His underlying analytics were just as concerning, considering that he produced a 5.29 xERA and .285 xBA.
Miller also ranked in the bottom third of the league in average exit velocity, barrel rate and hard-hit rate. Meanwhile, the Mariners’ bats have gone cold in this series.
They are averaging just three runs per game over the past two outings and have lost by a cumulative 15-run margin. Things are unlikely to improve against Gausman, against whom this Seattle roster owns a .232 BA and .227 xBA through 165 combined plate appearances.
Blue Jays vs Mariners Prediction, Betting Analysis
Toronto owns all the momentum, and that’s unlikely to change Friday evening. The clear pitching advantage goes to Gausman, who outpaces Miller both statistically and analytically.
The Jays’ offense has come to life over the past two games, while Seattle’s has regressed. The track record for each lineup against tonight’s starting pitchers suggests this trend will continue in Game 5.
