Rangers vs Rays MLB Betting Preview

Texas Rangers Betting Preview

The Rangers created some separation in the AL West over the weekend as they took three of four from the Mariners. They did not stop there as they won the series opener from the Rays last night. They now lead the Astros by two games and the Mariners by 2.5 games.

Joc Pederson recently recorded his 1000th career hit, and he scored the team's second run of the game after extending his hitting streak to nine games. Over the last two weeks, he is hitting .394 with four home runs, six runs batted in, and a 1.242 OPS. Catcher Austin Wynns provided some insurance with a solo home run in the seventh inning, his first of the season, as the Rangers went on to win 4-1.

Cal Quantrill had predominantly been used as an opener until this month, but he has worked five innings in four of five outings this month. Last night was one of his best outings of the season as he allowed one run on two hits while striking out a season-high seven.

MacKenzie Gore will look to build off Quantrill's start, but he has struggled mightily on the road this season. He is 3-6 with a 6.02 ERA on the road this season. That has brought his season ERA to 4.82, nearly a full run higher than his expected ERA and FIP, both of which are between 3.92 and 3.94.

Gore has always been known for generating strikeouts, and that has not changed in his first season in the Lone Star State. His 127 strikeouts are 20th in the MLB, and he ranks in the 70th percentile in strikeout rate. However, tonight's matchup may prove difficult for him as the Rays are 28th in strikeout rate against left-handed pitchers.

Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

Casey Legumina will open for Tampa Bay tonight, and he has a 3.95 ERA and 1.32 WHIP this season. Ian Seymour is expected to follow him, and his ERA as a reliever (4.20) is over a full run lower than as a starter (5.34).

He has proven to be a versatile piece for manager Kevin Cash, having started seven games and finished six others. In his last four outings of five innings or more, he has a 2.24 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 24 innings.

The Rays dropped a rare home game last night as they fell to 38-16 at Tropicana Field this season. They average 4.7 runs per game at home and have a .774 team OPS at home compared to .695 on the road. The usual suspects for them have been Yandy Diaz, Jonathan Aranda, and Junior Caminero, as all three have driven in over 60 runs this season. However, a couple of them have been quiet of late.

Diaz is just 3-for-24 (.125) over his last six games while Aranda is 4-for-20 (.200) over his last five games. Gore would be figured to be a better matchup for the right-handed hitting Diaz, who has typically torched left-handed pitching in his career. This season, he is hitting .307 against right-handers and .283 against left-handers.

Caminero is still third in the American League with 29 home runs, but he has just one since the All-Star break. However, he has not had much trouble getting on base.

Rangers vs Rays Pick, Betting Analysis

With the Rays moving back indoors this season, some expected a decline in Caminero's production. Instead, the 23-year-old has increased his OPS to .922 and, with 4.2 WAR, is on the verge of surpassing last year's total as well.

He enters tonight's game with a hit in 10 of his past 12 games, including five multi-hit games. Though he has just one home run recently, he does have four doubles and a triple, recording one of each last night to give him five total bases. He has recorded two total bases in four of his past seven games.

Tonight's matchup should be favorable for him as he is hitting .314 with seven home runs and a .995 OPS against left-handed pitchers. His OPS soars over 1.000 at home, and considering Gore's road struggles tonight, I will be backing him for two total bases tonight.

Pick: Junior Caminero Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105, BetMGM)
