Doug Ziefel’s Giants vs Dodgers Preview

San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

This matchup is crucial for many reasons. For the Giants, they are still in the mix for the final Wild Card spot in the National League as they enter just three games out.

If they are going to gain ground tonight, they'll have to do so against Clayton Kershaw. However, they've already shown they can get to Kershaw, as just six days ago, they knocked the future Hall of Famer out after just three innings, tagging him for four runs on five hits.

Although it should be noted that just yesterday, this game became massive in magnitude with Kershaw announcing his retirement at the end of the season, marking tonight his last regular season start in Dodger Blue.

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview

On the flip side of this matchup, it's still very important for the Dodgers as well. Of course, the goal now is to honor Kershaw, but they still need to treat this like an important game, as the Padres are breathing down their necks in the NL West standings with just a handful of games to go.

At the plate, the Dodgers have a tough assignment in Robbie Ray. The Giants' lethal lefty has been a big part of the team's success this season and needs to even the score after the Dodgers rocked him last Saturday.

It's no secret that Robbie Ray is scuffling down the stretch, but the Dodgers haven't hit lefties like they typically have over the last four weeks. It will only get harder for the Los Angeles as the Giants' bullpen is well-rested and will be able to mix and match in the late innings.

Giants vs Dodgers Prediction, Betting Pick

It seems sacrilegious to fade Clayton Kershaw in what may be his final career start at Dodger Stadium, but there is just too much working against him. This matchup is crucial for both sides, and the Dodgers can't let it slip away early if he's not sharp.

Plus, the Giants appear to have a great read on him after last week, and Kershaw has shown plenty of regression this season.

Lastly, the Dodgers are likely to give Kershaw his spotlight, which means he'll exit the game in the middle of an inning in order to receive a standing ovation from the Dodger faithful.

This very well could come at the first sign of trouble, as they don't want him to end on a sour note, especially with their long man Justin Wrobleski available in the bullpen.

Pick: Clayton Kershaw Under 14.5 Outs Recorded (+140, bet365)
