San Diego Padres vs San Francisco Giants MLB Preview
The Padres are on a four-game winning streak and have won their last three games by margins of four, three and four runs.
They will have Nick Pivetta on the mound this afternoon. The right-hander is enjoying a great season so far.
His last outing against the Red Sox was subpar, but before that, Pivetta had seven straight starts of two or fewer runs allowed.
There is no reason to think he won't be able to contain this Giants lineup, which ranks 22nd in wRC+ (95) in 2025. This month, San Francisco is 23rd in slugging (.388) and ISO (.143).
The Padres, on the other hand, are sixth in wRC+ (115) in August and will face Kai-Wei Teng, who will be making only his third outing this season.
While both relief corps are excellent, San Diego should also have the edge in later innings as their bullpen leads all MLB with a 2.99 ERA compared to the Giants' 3.26, which has them in second place.
