Yankees vs Blue Jays MLB Betting Preview

New York Yankees

The Yankees' lineup finally broke out of an extended cold stretch as they rocked Luis Severino and the Athletics in a 12- 5 victory on Sunday.

They'll look to carry that momentum into this series as they go north of the border.

I like their chances to stay hot tonight at the plate as they get to face future Hall of Famer, Max Scherzer.

The 40-year-old Scherzer will be making just his third start of the season as he suffered a thumb injury in late March.

Time has begun to catch up to Scherzer as his velocity has dropped, and his command has declined. There's no doubting his competitiveness on the mound, but at this stage of his career, it's going to be tough for him to navigate this Yankees order twice.

The Yankees still lead the American League in wRC+ and ISO against righties. If Sunday's performance snapped their cold streak, things could get bad for Scherzer in a hurry, especially if he's unable to get ahead with his fastball and no longer trusts his slider.

Toronto Blue Jays

As for the Blue Jays, they also enter this series with some momentum, having just won a series against the Red Sox.

Toronto's bats have been hot recently, ranking 11th among MLB lineups in wRC+ over the past two weeks, behind the lowest team strikeout rate.

However, that will be tested tonight with Carlos Rodon on the mound for the Yankees.

Rodon has finally begun it all together in pinstripes this season as he comes into this outing with a 2.92 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and a strikeout rate in the 89th percentile among qualified starting pitchers.

While the Blue Jays have done a majority of their damage against lefties this season, their power against them has begun to decline, and Rodon has shown no signs of slowing down as he's been elite against hitters on both sides of the plate.

Yankees vs Blue Jays Best Bet, Picks

This matchup is contingent on the version of Max Scherzer that we see.

It's highly doubtful that he turns back the clock, and that puts the Yankees in a great spot to succeed early in this one.

Rodon has given us no reason to doubt him, even in a tough matchup.

So, give me the Yankees to be leading halfway through.

Pick: Yankees F5 -0.5 (+100 · Play to -115)
