We have a 13-game slate to begin the work week. Three players I will be backing for player props tonight are Brandon Woodruff, CJ Abrams, and Kerry Carpenter.
Let's dive into my MLB player props picks for the MLB games on Monday, April 6.
MLB Player Props for Monday, April 6
- Brandon Woodruff Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-190, DraftKings)
- CJ Abrams Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (+100, Fanatics)
- Kerry Carpenter Over 1.5 Total Bases (+155, Fanatics)
Brewers vs Red Sox Player Props: Brandon Woodruff Over 5.5 Strikeouts
If the Brewers are going to contend in the NL Central after trading away Freddy Peralta in the offseason, they will likely need a healthy campaign from Woodruff. After returning to the Brewers' rotation last summer, Woodruff posted a 3.20 ERA in 64 and 2/3 innings while striking out 83 batters and accumulating 1.2 WAR in the process. He recorded six strikeouts in nine of 12 starts.
He continued that trend in his first start in 2026, fanning six in five innings against the Rays. He gets another AL East foe tonight and an even better matchup. Last year, Boston was eighth in strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers. After the loss of a contact hitter like Alex Bregman in the offseason, early indications are that the Red Sox will continue to strike out a bunch.
Through their first nine games, the Red Sox are fifth in strikeout rate this season and they are off to a 2-7 start. Six of the first nine starters the Red Sox have faced have gone over their strikeout lines. Astros starters Lance McCullers, Hunter Brown, and Mike Burrows each recorded six strikeouts or more.
While the Brewers will likely continue to closely monitor Woodruff's innings, he has already shown he only needs five innings to clear this number. If he works five innings again, I like him to record six strikeouts for the second consecutive start to begin this season.
Pick: Brandon Woodruff Over 5.5 Strikeouts
Cardinals vs Nationals Player Props: CJ Abrams Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In
While the Nationals were swept by the Dodgers over the weekend, it was not because of their offense. They scored 17 runs in the three-game set and six of them were driven in by Abrams. The 25-year-old is off to a fast start, slashing .290/.389/.581 with three home runs, 12 runs batted in, and seven runs scored.
His home runs came in three consecutive games. While the streak ended yesterday, I would not be surprised if he got his first home run off Andre Pallante tonight. Abrams is 4-for-9 with a double against the Cardinals right-hander.
Pallante tossed five shutout innings in his season-opening start against the Mets. While he will look to build on that tonight, left-handers hit .266 with 19 doubles, 10 home runs, and 47 runs batted in against him last season.
Abrams is one left-handed hitter who has given him fits over the years. He has a hit in seven of his first eight games and he has scored a run in each of his last six games. As a result, he has recorded two hits, runs, and runs batted in seven times in his first eight games while averaging 3.5 per game. We will take two from him tonight.
Pick: CJ Abrams Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In
Tigers vs Twins Player Props: Kerry Carpenter Over 1.5 Total Bases
Through Friday's games, Tigers' catcher Dillon Dingler was the only player on the team with a home run this season. That had to mean Carpenter was off to a slow start and he entered the Tigers' home opener, hitting just .091 to begin the year. Carpenter recorded two hits on Friday before hitting his first two home runs of the season in Saturday's and Sunday's games.
That means he heads to Minnesota having recorded two total bases in each of his last three games. That is not good news for Joe Ryan and the Twins. In his last six at-bats against Ryan, Carpenter has four hits, including a double and a home run, and good for a 2.000 OPS. Carpenter likes facing Twins' pitching in general as he is hitting .376 with six doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 22 RBI, and a 1.076 OPS in 33 games against them.
Carpenter has recorded two total bases in 10 of his last 13 games against Minnesota, while averaging 2.8 per game. As is the case with Carpenter, he may only have three at-bats if he is pulled for a pinch hitter because the Twins brought a lefty out of the bullpen. However, that has not stopped him in his past three games. He is also hitting .355 in 16 career games at Target Field. I like him to stay hot against the Twins tonight.
Pick: Kerry Carpenter Over 1.5 Total Bases
