We have yet another tremendous Saturday slate on tap as the second half of the MLB season began yesterday.
With all eyes on the playoffs, the competition will heat up as the weather does, and today's slate is sure to be action-packed.
I've zeroed in on three guys who are in great spots to succeed tonight.
So, let's dive right into today's top MLB player props.
MLB Player Props For Saturday, July 15
Alex Cobb Over 4.5 Strikeouts -120
Giants vs. Pirates | |
First Pitch | 7:05 pm ET |
Best Line | DraftKings |
The Giants are right in the thick of things in the NL West, and Alex Cobb is a big reason why. The 35-year-old right-hander has really found his groove by the bay, as he's pitched to a 2.91 ERA thus far.
He has an excellent opportunity to build on his fine season this afternoon as he'll face the Pirates.
Pittsburgh was a team that showed promise early in the season, but injuries and inconsistency from young players have caused a rapid decline in the standings.
Cobb should be able to capitalize on the subpar discipline of this lineup.
Pittsburgh is right around league average in terms of strikeout rate, but this total is too low for Cobb.
He's surpassed this total in 11 of his 16 starts this season, which feeds into a longer trend. Cobb has reached five strikeouts in 61.4% of his last 44 starts, which gives us implied odds of -158 that he'll go over again tonight.
Pick: Alex Cobb Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-120)
Luis Arraez Over 1.5 Total Bases -110
Marlins vs. Orioles | |
First Pitch | 7:05 pm ET |
Best Line | BetRivers |
It's always fun to back the NL hit leader, and this afternoon, Luis Arraez is in a prime spot to add to his incredible average.
Arraez has been the toughest out in the league, as he comes into this matchup hitting .380 on the season.
While he doesn't scorch the ball, he's the definition of "put the ball in play and good things will happen."
The league-wide BABIP is .297 this season, and Arraez's ability to put the ball in play has been the key to his success.
Tonight he'll face Kyle Gibson, who's struggled to put hitters away this season, as his strikeout rate is in the 21st percentile, which is his lowest mark since 2017.
While we've seen that Arraez has the ability to find a gap, with a hitter of his caliber, a multi-hit effort is well within the realm of possibility.
Pick: Luis Arraez Over 1.5 Total Bases (-110)
Ryan McMahon Over 1.5 Total Bases +110
Yankees vs. Rockies | |
First Pitch | 8:10 pm ET |
Best Line | bet365 |
We head to Coors Field, where balls go fly and pitchers' ERAs skyrocket.
Unfortunately, the next pitcher that's likely in line to fall victim to the Rockies' unfriendly confines is Clarke Schmidt.
Schmidt may have great counting stats, but his average exit velocity and hard-hit rate tell a different story, as they each rank in the bottom 20% of the majors. He's due for quite a bit of regression and is not the ideal pitcher for this environment.
One man who'll play a significant role in knocking Schmidt around tonight is Ryan McMahon. The 28-year-old third baseman has broken out this season, as he's been making loads of loud contact and is on track to put up the best power numbers of his career.
Fade Schmidt by backing Colorado's best hitter.
