We have yet another tremendous Saturday slate on tap in MLB. While there are an overwhelming amount of props on the board today, I have found three of the better plays on the slate.
So let's dive in and see which starters you should be targeting today.
MLB Player Props For Saturday, April 22nd
Chad Kuhl Over 4.5 hits allowed (-125)
Nationals vs. Twins | |
First Pitch | 2:10 p.m. ET |
Best Line | bet365 |
Chad Kuhl has essentially become a punching bag for Major League lineups. He allowed a bevy of hits last season, and that trend has continued into this year.
He enters this start ranking in the bottom 15 percent of all qualified pitchers in average exit velocity, hard-hit rate, and strikeout rate. Not only is he not missing bats, but the contact he's allowing is amongst the hardest in the league.
Those are numbers that make every opposing hitter's eyes light up. The Twins could be in line to do some damage as they rank in the top ten in hard-hit rate and possess plenty of power throughout their lineup.
Aside from the matchup, this hit total is far too low. Kuhl has surrendered at least five hits in 80 percent of his last 30 starts.
That gives us implied odds of -400 that he'll be over the mark once again today.
Pick: Over 4.5 hits allowed.
Wade Miley Under 17.5 pitching outs (-120)
Red Sox vs. Brewers | |
First Pitch | 7:10 p.m. ET |
Best Line | DraftKings |
Wade Miley has been a pleasant surprise for the Brewers. He has a 1.50 ERA through four starts and is coming off a dominant outing against the Padres in which he threw seven shutout innings.
However, the likelihood of him repeating that success is not great. Miley will be up against a Red Sox lineup designed to hit left-handed pitching.
Boston ranks in the top ten in wRC+, and wOBA against lefties; Miley is not a strikeout pitcher, with a strikeout rate in the 31st percentile.
In addition to the tough matchup, Miley making it through the sixth has not been a theme for him over the last two seasons. He has recorded less than 17.5 outs in 8-of-12 starts.
That gives us implied odds of -200 that he'll hit the showers early tonight.
Pick: Under 17.5 pitching outs recorded.
Joe Musgrove over 4.5 strikeouts (-117)
Padres vs. Diamondbacks | |
First Pitch | 8:10 pm ET |
Best Line | BetRivers |
This series is full of debuts for the Padres as Fernando Tatis returned in Thursday's series opener, and now Joe Musgrove makes his 2023 debut on Saturday.
Musgrove has been sensational since arriving in San Diego, and 2022 was his best season yet. The right-hander posted a career-best 2.93 ERA and was named an All-Star for the first time.
He'll face an Arizona lineup that has done a solid job of putting the ball in play, but the strikeout total is just too low for Musgrove.
Dating back to 2020, Musgrove has eclipsed this strikeout total in 69.2 percent of his starts. He should be fired up for this one, and the strikeouts could pile up in a hurry.
Pick: Over 4.5 strikeouts.
