Carlos Correa Fantasy Score Less Than 7
The first installment of this three-game AL Central series gets underway Friday evening with the third-place Detroit Tigers hosting the first-place MinnesotaTwins. Slated to take the mound for Detroit is left-hander Joey Wentz, who could be a good candidate to back in this matchup.
Yes, it has been an awful sophomore campaign for Wentz, but he has started to turn things around recently. Over his past two starts, he boasts a 3.48 ERA and 0.59 WHIP.
The latest of those two starts came against Minnesota, a game in which he allowed two runs on two hits through six innings pitched. In that contest, Carlos Correa went 0-4 with a strikeout.
It has been an extremely difficult season for Correa, who possesses a .216 BA and .708 OPS through 66 games. His underlying metrics suggest that positive regression is unlikely, ranking in the 44th percentile or lower in Average Exit Velocity, xwOBA, xBA, K% and Whiff%.
Byron Buxton Fantasy Score Less Than 7.5
The other Twins hitter to fade in this matchup is Byron Buxton, who has stayed below this number in three of his past five games. In that aforementioned game against Wentz and the Tigers, Buxton also went 0-4 with three strikeouts.
Like Correa, it has been a tough year for Buxton, who possesses a .215 BA and .774 OPS. Also like Correa, Buxton's underlying metrics suggest positive regression is unlikely.
Currently, he ranks in the 44th percentile or lower in xwOBA, xBA, K% and Whiff%.
Marcus Semien Fantasy Score Less Than 7
For our last play, we are going to target Marcus Semien to stay below seven fantasy points. The AL West's Texas Rangers head to New York to take on the AL East's Yankees to kick off a three-game series.
Slated to take the mound for New York is right-hander Clarke Schmidt. Through four career plate appearances against Schimdt, Semien possesses a .154 xBA, .199 xSLG and .288 xwOBA.
Despite his strong start to the campaign, Semien's season-long metrics also suggest that regression is looming. He ranks in the 48th percentile or lower in Average Exit Velocity, HardHit%, xwOBA, xSLG and Barrel%.
This regression has already started to hit for Semien, who has failed to surpass this number in six of his past seven games.
