Wednesday's MLB slate is loaded with intriguing angles, and I've pinpointed three starters to bolster your betting card.
Let's not waste any more time and dive into our top Wednesday MLB player props for Bryan Woo, Tyler Anderson and Robbie Ray.
Doug Ziefel's MLB Player Props (8/14)
- Bryan Woo Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-145, DraftKings)
- Tyler Anderson Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-120, DraftKings)
- Robbie Ray Over 7.5 Strikeouts (+128, bet365)
Mariners vs Tigers Player Props: Fade Bryan Woo
The Mariners are set to send out another quality arm tonight in Bryan Woo. Woo has been excellent this season, as he enters with a 2.27 ERA and 0.88 WHIP over 13 starts.
However, we've seen a sharp decline in his strikeouts from his rookie season. Woo's strikeout rate is down nearly six percent from last year, and heading into tonight's matchup with the Tigers, he's getting too much respect.
While the Tigers do have the ninth-highest team strikeout rate against righties this season, they don't display the qualities of a team that strikes out that much. They rank 14th in zone contact rate, and they rank 11th in chase contact rate.
Overall, we've seen Woo go under this total in nine of his 13 starts this season, and in a matchup that's tougher than it appears, the right side to be on is the under.
Pick: Bryan Woo Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-145)
Blue Jays vs Angels Player Props: Limited K's From Tyler Anderson?
Our next starter — Tyler Anderson — will take the mound in Anaheim against the Blue Jays. Anderson has come out of nowhere and has put together a phenomenal season, as he enters this outing with a 2.29 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.
However, Anderson is also one of baseball's biggest regression candidates, as his xERA is 4.20 and his SIERA is 4.84. The stark difference in those numbers stems from Anderson's inability to miss bats while also not producing ground balls.
Tonight, he'll be up against a Blue Jays lineup that can put the ball in play with the best of them. They rank second in chase contact rate and fourth in zone contact rate.
There won't be many whiffs for Anderson tonight, which will keep him under this total for the 14th time in 24 starts.
Pick: Tyler Anderson Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-120)
Braves vs Giants Player Props: Robbie Ray to Control Atlanta
The last starter we're going to target is Robbie Ray. The Giants signed him while he was injured because they knew the type of upside he could provide to this rotation, and it's been apparent since he returned in late July.
Ray has shown elite stuff and has been tough to touch, as his swinging strike rate ranks in the 96th percentile and his CSW is in the 71st percentile.
While that's only from a sample size of four starts this year, those rates aren't inflated much higher than what we saw from him in 2022, when he made 32 starts.
It's clear Ray has a high strikeout upside, and we've seen that the Braves are a team to attack when it comes to strikeout props. Atlanta has the third-lowest zone contact rate and the seventh-lowest chase contact rate in baseball.
Those numbers have helped them have the highest strikeout rate in the majors against lefties over the last month.
We've already seen Ray strike out at least eight batters twice in his four starts, and he has a great opportunity to do so again.
Take advantage of the plus-money price.
