On Monday, we travel to Houston to find value in a NRFI between two powerhouse teams: the Philadelphia Phillies and the Houston Astros.
The Astros will send out Lance McCullers Jr., who looks to continue his success since coming back from the IL to be ready for the playoffs. Coming into today, McCullers is a perfect 7-0 to the NRFI With a 4-0 home NRFI split.
When facing batters the first time through the order, McCullers has been nothing shy of dominant. In 54 batters faced he’s only allowed six hits which is good for a .111 average.
McCullers has minimal appearances against these Philadelphia Phillies hitters, thus leaving the edge of unfamiliarity with McCullers. Here are his two most notable matchups today:
- Jean Segura: 4-for-21
- Nick Castellanos: 2-for-7
The Phillies were counter with their ace in Aaron Nola. Coming into today, Nola is 27-4 to the NRFI with an impressive 13-2 road NRFI split. When facing batters the first time through the order, Nola has also excelled, only allowing a .184 average.
Here is how some of these Astros hitters have done in the past against Nola:
- Trey Mancin:i 0-for-3
- Yuli Gurriel: 0-for-3
- Aledmys Diaz: 0-for-7
The Phillies are in a neck-and-neck race with the Milwaukee Brewers for the final NL wild-card spot. The Astros have clinched and may be coasting into the playoffs, but that is not the case for McCullers Jr. He has limited starts in the regular season and needs to stay on point to make sure he’s ready for the playoffs.
Bet on these two outstanding NRFI pitchers to throw a scoreless first inning today in Houston.
As always, six outs to glory…
