Shayne Trail breaks down his favorite NRFI/YRFI bets of the day below, but you can follow all of his bets in the Action Network app.
Jesus Luzardo &
Blake Snell
Matchup | Tigers vs. Marlins · Rangers vs. Padres |
First Pitch | 1:40 p.m. ET · 4:10 p.m. ET |
Today, we will create a custom No Runs First Inning (NRFI) bet by analyzing the performances of two pitchers in two different games. This kind of bet can be found at sportsbooks such as DraftKings and Barstool Sportsbook.
This specific type of NRFI bet is different from a traditional NRFI, as it combines two separate half-innings from two different games. This approach allows you to tailor the bet to your preferences.
Our first selection for today’s custom NRFI showcases the Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo.
This season, Luzardo has been nothing short of spectacular, boasting an impressive 19-2 NRFI record, with a near-perfect 11-1 NRFI split when pitching at home. Overall, Luzardo's NRFI record now stands at an astounding 34-4 since 2022.
When facing batters for the first time through the order, Luzardo has been extremely proficient, allowing only a .183 average in 180 at-bats. Additionally, Luzardo has a small sample size against the Tigers' hitters, which could play to his advantage today.
Moreover, over the last seven days, the Tigers have struggled in the first inning, managing only four hits in 23 plate appearances.
Our second selection for today’s custom NRFI features Cy Young candidate Blake Snell of the San Diego Padres.
Snell has been dominant this season, holding a strong 16-5 NRFI record with a near-perfect 9-1 NRFI split when pitching at home to bring his overall NRFI record to an impressive 37-8 since 2022.
A significant factor contributing to Snell's NRFI success is his prowess against opposing teams' leadoff hitters, limiting them to a meager .151 batting average in 53 at-bats.
Similar to Luzardo, Snell also has a small sample size against the Rangers' hitters, which may work to his advantage.
Marcus Semien has struggled against Snell, with just one hit in six at-bats in his career. Additionally, the Rangers will be without a daunting first-inning bat in Corey Seager, with Ezequiel Duran replacing him. Duran has recorded only four hits in his last 21 plate appearances, resulting in a .190 average.
This custom NRFI can be found at -205 at DraftKings, but Barstool Sportsbook is providing a significantly better number at -170.
As always, six outs to glory…
