First Pitch | 1:40 p.m. ET |
Today, we will create a custom No Runs First Inning (NRFI) bet by analyzing the performances of two pitchers. This personalized bet can be crafted through sportsbooks such as DraftKings and Barstool Sportsbook.
This NRFI bet is different from a traditional NRFI, as it combines two separate half-innings from the first innings of two different games. This approach allows you to have a better edge and tailor the bet to your preferences.
The first selection today focuses on one of the most exceptional NRFI pitchers in MLB, newly acquired Texas Ranger Jacob deGrom.
DeGrom's coming off an NRFI in his first start of 2023, bringing his record to an impressive 11-1 since 2022. When facing batters the first time through the order, deGrom has allowed only 16 hits in 96 at-bats, translating to a .167 average.
DeGrom has never faced these Orioles hitters, which will play significantly to his advantage. The Orioles hold a respectable .286 first-inning batting average. However, upon closer examination, they have the second-highest number of strikeouts in the first inning (10), just behind the Astros (11), which is the worst in MLB.
As a strikeout pitcher, deGrom will benefit greatly from this, generating numerous swings and misses.
The second option today is Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes. Last season, like deGrom, he emerged as one of the most outstanding NRFI pitchers, posting a 29-5 record with a 17-1 home NRFI split.
When facing batters the first time through the order, Burnes held hitters to a .172 average, allowing only 47 hits in 274 batters faced. Notably, Burnes limited teams' leadoff hitters to a .183 average, surrendering just 17 hits throughout the entire season.
The Mets are the second-worst first-inning hitting team in baseball, with a .143 batting average, amassing only three hits in 27 at-bats.
Burnes has held his own against these Mets hitters in previous seasons. Francisco Lindor has gone 3-for-15, Pete Alonso 4-for-12, Jeff McNeil 4-for-13 and Daniel Vogelbach 2-for-9.
The one hitter to be wary of today is Brandon Nimmo, who has gone 6-for-12 against Burnes.
This NRFI bet has significantly better odds over at DraftKings (-175) compared to Barstool Sportsbook (-225).
As always, six outs to glory…
