The Angels come into this series finale on a real cold streak, having lost seven of their last 10 ballgames, including the first two games of this series. However, that has the chance to change this afternoon as their stopper takes the mound, Jose Soriano.
Soriano has been the lone bright spot on this Angels staff this season, pitching to a 3.51 ERA and holding an elite CSW of 30.2%. Although we've seen a slight decline from Soriano's hot start to the season, over his last five starts, he holds a 5.19 ERA.
He's been unable to finish off hitters when ahead and tends to fall behind them in general. His first pitch strike rate is well below average, and when the groundballs don't come in bunches, his outings have been brief, lasting around just five innings of late.
The Giants have been nothing to write home about offensively, but they have proven they can hit righties with power, holding a wRC+ of 110 against them with an ISO of .173, just below that of the Dodgers.
San Francisco Giants Betting Preview
This game is a tale of teams trending in opposite directions as the Giants have been doing everything they can to salvage their season. The bats have come around lately, as I highlighted above, but it's been spurred by Rafael Devers.
Devers drove in four runs yesterday and smashed his ninth homer of the month. He's been on a tear, and when he's hot, this Giants lineup will produce.
However, if they are going to sweep this series, they'll likely need the production to continue, as their starter, Carson Whisenhunt, is due for quite a bit of regression.
Whisenhunt is set to make just his third start of the season, and while he's managed to allow no more than two runs in each of his first two outings, his 5.53 xFIP tells a very different story.
He's proven to be fortunate as he's walked just as many batters as he's struck out. That traffic combined with the large amount of hard contact in general is a recipe for runs against him on the board.
Angels have not been a consistent lineup when it comes to putting the ball in play, but they've shown they can do damage when that happens against righties. We should see that here given Whisenhunt's looming regression.

At first glance, this is not a game where many would expect scoring. Jose Soriano on the mound in one of the worst hitters' ballparks is not what you look for.
Although a closer look shows that both starters are more than capable of getting knocked around this afternoon against lineups that have proven to be capable in the right matchup, which is what they'll have in front of them.
