Angels vs Red Sox Prediction, Betting Analysis
For Wednesday’s MLB action, a strong betting recommendation from our PRO Projections model is to take Jose Soriano of the Los Angeles Angels to record under 4.5 strikeouts against the Boston Red Sox in the third game of their series.
Our proprietary data has Soriano’s expected strikeout total pegged at just 4.1.
While the Red Sox admittedly rank among the highest strikeout teams in the league overall, their numbers change considerably when playing at Fenway Park.
On the road, Boston averages over 10 strikeouts per game, but that figure drops to around eight per game at home, placing it in the top half of the league for the fewest strikeouts.
Fenway is generally a pitcher-friendly park when it comes to strikeouts, partly because the Green Monster’s clean batter’s eye in center field reduces strikeout opportunities, ranking fourth-best in the majors for limiting strikeouts, per StatCast.
Soriano himself isn’t known for missing bats either. With 49 strikeouts across 12 starts this season, he relies heavily on inducing ground balls, ranking in the 99th percentile for ground-ball rate, but generating relatively few swings and misses.
Given the total runs are set at 10.5 and the favorable context, the under 4.5 strikeouts seems like a smart, value-driven play for Wednesday’s matchup.
