Boston Red Sox Betting Preview: Seek Bounce-Back Behind Their Ace
Well, yesterday I put my faith in Walker Buehler, and he had his worst start of the season. However, the saving grace is that the Red Sox fought back from a big early deficit without using their high-leverage relief arms while causing the Yankees to use theirs in the late innings.
This bullpen advantage is huge given the Red Sox are favored to be leading the game halfway through with Garrett Crochet on the mound. Boston should be able to get to Yankees starter Ryan Yarbrough, who's been in the best form of his career since donning the pinstripes.
Yarbrough does not generate many groundballs, and Boston has increased their flyball rate over the last two weeks. Additionally, the Red Sox are one of the top lineups against left-handed pitching, ranking first in BABIP, third in hard-hit rate, and fifth in wRC+.
As I highlighted earlier, the Yankees' bullpen is taxed and many of their top arms will be forced to throw for a second consecutive day, which could lead to late-inning falters, giving the Red Sox the ability to even the series.
New York Yankees Betting Preview: Bronx Bombers Try to Solve Crochet
While I spent the section above glossing over what the Yankees' lineup did yesterday, the Bronx Bombers lived up to their nickname and are still very dangerous tonight. However, having that type of offensive outburst against Garrett Crochet would be an impressive feat.
Crochet has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the game as he comes in with a 1.98 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in 13 starts this season. Countering that dominance is a Yankees lineup that is best in baseball against left-handed pitching, but the Yankees have not seen Crochet in his young career.
I expect the Yankees to struggle with Crochet the first few times through the order, as his electric stuff and arm angle are tough to combat. If the Yankees are contained to that length, they may already be in a deficit, which will only increase as the game goes on.
