Baltimore Orioles Betting Preview: In Trouble Against Lefties
The Baltimore Orioles continue their road trip tonight after taking two of three from the Tampa Bay Rays. The Orioles have begun to trend up offensively, but they face a tall task in the form of Max Fried.
Fried has been lights out, as he enters with a 1.89 ERA and 0.95 WHIP on the season. While Fried's expected stats predict some regression is incoming, it's hard to see it happening tonight, as the Orioles have been dreadful against lefties this season.
Baltimore ranks 27th in wRC+ and 23rd in strikeout rate against left-handers. Fried has all the tools to shut this lineup down, as his command and home-run rate have been elite.
Behind him, the Yankees' bullpen comes into this series a bit taxed after a high-scoring series with the Angels. Still, they used their righties in the series finale yesterday, so look for Boone to keep turning to southpaws in order to contain this Orioles lineup.
New York Yankees Betting Preview: Bombers Bouncing Back
On the flip side of this matchup, the Yankees were able to salvage the final game against the Angels, and that victory may be the start of a turnaround for this club.
We know the Bronx Bombers always roll out the most dangerous lineup in the American League, as they lead the AL in xWOBACON and home runs.
Yesterday, they scored seven runs, more than they combined for in their seven previous games. Their momentum should carry over to this matchup since they'll face Tomoyuki Sugano.
Sugano has been solid at the backend of the Orioles' rotation, but his lack of whiffs and hard contact suggests sizable regression is coming. What makes this outing the most daunting for Sugano is where and when it's taking place.
He's pitching in the most hitter-friendly ballpark, and warm temperatures are expected. The conditions only favor the Yankees' bats, as Sugano is no stranger to allowing homers.
Then, behind him, the backend of the Orioles' bullpen may not be able to put out the fire.
Top arms like Felix Bautista, Seranthony Dominguez, Bryan Baker and Gregory Soto pitched yesterday.
