The Diamondbacks are coming off an 8-2 loss in the first game of this series. Zac Gallen struggled against this stacked Dodgers offense, allowing four earned runs in four innings, while reliever Taylor Clarke was rocked for another four earned runs in a third of an inning.
The good news for Arizona is they didn’t use any of their high-leverage relievers in the first game, including veteran Paul Sewald, who is expected to be the team’s closer after a strong spring.
The D-Backs are sending out righty Ryne Nelson, who struck out seven Rangers in five scoreless innings in his final spring start. It was an impressive preseason overall for Nelson, as he had a 35.4% strikeout rate in 17 innings.

The Dodgers got a strong outing from Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the opener. He went six innings, allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts.
We haven’t yet seen stud closer Edwin Diaz, so he’s completely fresh for this game.
Emmet Sheehan, who is a popular breakout pick, takes the mound for the Dodgers tonight. However, he’s coming off a disappointing spring, where he had some control problems, issuing six walks in only 10 and 2/3 innings.
With that in mind, we could have some value in this game, since the Dodgers are always going to be heavy favorites with their stacked roster.
It may be a spot where we can pick on them.
Diamondbacks vs Dodgers Pick, Betting Analysis
Given what we saw in the second half (3.09 ERA) and how dominant he’s looked in spring, you can make a legitimate case that Ryne Nelson is the best pitcher on the D-Backs right now, especially with Zac Gallen in decline.
While the Diamondbacks aren’t world-beaters by any means, this is still a team that should win 80+ games.
There are some good bats in this lineup, led by superstar Corbin Carroll and veteran Ketel Marte. To that end, it’s not a bad idea to see if they can pull off the upset with their best pitcher on the mound.
With Emmet Sheehan potentially getting off to a slow start this season on the heels of a disappointing spring, coupled with a D-Backs bullpen that still hasn’t used their high-leverage relievers, Arizona looks like a live dog tonight.
