Jets vs. Penguins Preview

Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets’ biggest advantage in this game is in net, as goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is slated to start. While it has not been his strongest campaign outside of the Olympics, he remains the league’s reigning Vezina and Hart Trophy winner.

This could be a buy-low opportunity on Hellebuyck against the Pittsburgh Penguins, a team he has dominated throughout his career. Over the past 11 meetings, Hellebuyck owns a .938 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.

It is no surprise Winnipeg has won each of the past four games between these teams.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Across the ice, goaltender Stuart Skinner is projected to start for Pittsburgh. Entering this matchup in poor form, Skinner has allowed three or more goals in six of his past eight starts.

He is 2-1-5 over that stretch with a .869 save percentage and a 3.63 goals-against average. Those struggles could continue against Winnipeg, as Skinner owns a .879 save percentage in eight career meetings against the Jets.

Jets vs. Penguins Prediction

The Penguins are a solid team and are justifiably favored. However, -162 may be an overadjustment given Winnipeg’s clear edge in net.

Home ice has also not been a major advantage for Pittsburgh, a team that is below .500 at PPG Paints Arena this season. At +136, there is value in backing Hellebuyck to lead Winnipeg to a win.

Pick: Jets Moneyline (+136 at DraftKings | Play to +130)
