Flyers vs. Penguins Preview

Philadelphia Flyers

Following his Game 1 victory, goaltender Dan Vladar is expected to start again for the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 2. Vladar enters this contest in strong form, allowing two or fewer goals in six of his past seven starts.

He is 6-1 over that stretch with a .917 save percentage and a 1.84 goals-against average. His performance has been supported by one of the best defensive teams in hockey.

This season, Philadelphia ranks ninth in the league in goals allowed per game and fourth in shots on goal allowed per game. The Flyers not only limit shot volume, but they also limit quality, ranking third in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

Pittsburgh Penguins

That defense is likely to create problems for the Pittsburgh Penguins again in Game 2. However, goaltender Stuart Skinner has performed well against Philadelphia.

In nine career meetings, Skinner is 5-2-2 with a .908 save percentage and a 2.52 goals-against average. His success could continue, especially against a Flyers offense that has struggled this season.

Philadelphia ranks 21st in goals scored per game and last in power-play percentage, largely due to its inability to generate high-danger scoring chances. Entering this matchup, the Flyers rank 25th in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60).

Flyers vs. Penguins Prediction

There were five total goals scored in Game 1, and another low-scoring game is likely in Game 2. With limited offensive production and strong defense, Philadelphia is one of the lowest-event teams in the league.

As a result, there have been six or fewer total goals scored in seven of its past nine games. Additionally, six or fewer goals have been scored in three of the five meetings between these teams this season.

Pick: Under 6.5 (-127 at Kalshi | Play to -135)
