The Las Vegas Raiders (8-9 in 2023) begin the 2024 regular season against the Los Angeles Chargers (5-12), with kickoff set for 4:05 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

The Chargers are favored by three points over the Raiders in the latest NFL odds for Week 1, with the over/under set at 40.

These teams have new full-time head coaches, although Antonio Pierce already showed he's capable of getting the Raiders on a run, and Gardner Minshew will lead the offense with Davante Adams to start the season. The Chargers have Jim Harbaugh at the helm now and Justin Herbert under center with a new-look offense.

It's time for a Raiders vs. Chargers prediction and my NFL predictions and picks for this Sunday afternoon game in Week 1.

How To Make NFL Picks for Raiders vs. Chargers

These teams look about as different as they possibly could compared to the start of last season.

Gone are Josh McDaniels and Brandon Staley as head coaches and in are Pierce and Harbaugh, who are quite different from their predecessors. Jimmy Garoppolo is no longer the Raiders quarterback, with Minshew installed as the QB1 now. Justin Herbert is still the Chargers' star man, but he's now without Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

Pierce got the Raiders gig after an impressive run last season that saw Las Vegas become competitive after McDaniels' firing. The most famous moment was a 42-point blowout win over the Herbert-less Chargers in primetime late last season.

By Alex Kolodziej

A Pierce vs. Harbaugh game produces one of the lowest totals of Week 1 — go figure.

Sharps, experts and big money aren't overthinking it. Sorting PRO's insights by strength in the over/under market for Week 1, all three signals are aligned on Raiders vs. Chargers under the total.

Despite attracting just 15% of the tickets we track in our betting data, the Raiders-Chargers under represents nearly half the handle, or money rolling in. The number's down from open, and top experts in our app agree with uniform movement down.

Both defenses boast excellent pass rushers. Both offenses, meanwhile, are breaking in a bunch of new players.

Multiple, sharp resources in PRO agree the Week 1, divisional tilt's a low-scoring slug fest behind a pair of defensive-minded coaches.

Pick: Under 40.5
