Indianapolis Colts vs Tennessee Titans NFL Preview
I'm rolling with the Titans as home underdogs against the Colts.
Given the way the first few weeks of the season have played out, I just want to sell Indianapolis at this point.
I love what the Colts are doing with running back Jonathan Taylor. Their offense has been great so far this season. But I think the Titans are going to slowly get better and better as the year unfolds. They're shifting things up every week.
The Titans have a young team. Their quarterback, Cam Ward, is also going to continue to improve each week — or at least he should, especially at home.
Their defense has been solid. Head coach Brian Callahan still leaves some things to be desired, but this profiles as a good spot for Tennessee.
We see it all the time, especially in weeks like this. Somebody always surprises us.
One team is 0-2, they are underdogs against a divisional opponent, and we don't have a track record of elite production from that said opponent, like Colts QB Daniel Jones, or really this Indianapolis team as a whole, for that matter — and then we say, "How did they lose that game?"
The Colts are likely overpriced entering Week 3. The sample size of this team being good is still very small.
Another angle that I love in favor of Tennessee is the Colts going on the road against a tough defense where there might be weather issues. This could just open up a chance for the Titans, as they should be able to run the ball effectively.
Colts vs Titans Betting Best Bets, Analysis
This Titans are much better than they were last season, and that's even after all the negative plays Ward made in the first two games of his career.
So far, Ward has made up for the negative plays by making a bunch of positive plays as well. And the mistakes he's made were far less backbreaking than the ones we've seen Tennessee QBs make in recent years. He only turned the ball over once in his first two starts, which feels like a win.
My one concern is that the Titans have been running early way too often. I want to see them open up the passing game more. They seem a bit scared of unleashing Ward against top-notch pass rushes like the Broncos and Rams, but that won't be the case against the Colts.
Another angle for this game: In Weeks 2 through 5 (overreaction season), when a road favorite is coming off a win as a road underdog (such as the Colts), those teams are 17-39-1 ATS the following game. Plus, when the opposing team has a losing record, they are 11-29-1 ATS in those contests.
It's a great spot for Tennessee. This is where you bet the Titans.
