Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos Preview

This was one of my hot reads on Sunday night — one of the two bets I made for Week 15 right away.

These teams are both coming off their bye week, so there’s no edge there for either side. We do have a matchup between defenses that should be poised to perform well here.

The Broncos defense will be disappointed with how efficient Jameis Winston was two weeks ago. Winston threw three interceptions, two of which Denver returned for a touchdown, but he also threw for 497 yards and four touchdowns. The Browns offense totaled 552 yards, but its yards-per-play average was equal to the Broncos’ 6.6.

This will be a good bounce-back spot for Denver, which gets a matchup against the usually inefficient Anthony Richardson.

After returning to the starting role with a strong performance agains the Jets, Richardson went into the bye with completion percentages of 39.3% and 50% against the Lions and Patriots.

Denver has a top-five defense on early downs and the Colts have a bottom-10 defense over the first three quarters of games. The Broncos also have the second-best second-half defense in the NFL.

Along with that, the Colts defense ranks in the top 10 in the first and third quarters. That will set up well to defend the Broncos’ scripted plays for Bo Nix.

We rarely get matchups between two teams coming off their bye week, but the under is 40-19 (68%) when that does happen. Eight straight such matchups have hit the under, and they’ve done so by more than 10 points per game.

My Pick: Under 44 (-110)
