After a disappointing 2023 season, USC enters 2024 in a new conference and with a renewed focus on defense. After an atrocious defensive effort a season ago, Lincoln Riley went out and hired D'Anton Lynn away from UCLA to serve as the Trojans' new defensive coordinator. Offensively, the Trojans will be replacing quarterback Caleb Williams, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, though Riley has always seemingly had success on the offensive side of the ball.

Betting on the USC Trojans

USC Spreads

Despite their 8-5 overall record in 2023, the Trojans struggled against the spread, going just 3-9. Since spread bets depend on the winning margin as favored teams have to win by more than bookmakers' expectations to pay off for their bettors.

For example, a Trojans spread might read:

• UCLA +3.5 (-110)
• USC -3.5 (-110)

If the favored Trojans win 41-38, that doesn’t get it done. They cover only when they win by four or more points, while the underdog UCLA Bruins just have to lose by three or fewer points, or win the game outright, to win this type of bet.

USC Over/Unders

If you love betting the over, then you loved USC. The over went 9-3 during USC games last season.

Over/unders, or totals, are bets on the total points scored during a game, and oddsmakers set the line based on how many points they expect. The Trojans' game against Oregon could have a total set at 65 points. With a final score of 31-21, under bettors win. With this type of bet, it doesn’t matter who wins — all that counts is the points.

USC Moneylines

If you’re confident in the Trojans to win the game, but aren’t sure by how much, moneyline bets make things easy. Moneylines are just bets on the outright winner of the game. It doesn’t matter if it’s a nail-biter or a blowout.

The odds are a little tricky to read, but a $100 unit helps simplify things. Favorites always have a minus sign in front of their odds, with the number following representing how much you have to risk for the chance to earn $100.

That means a $150 bet on the Trojans at -150 pays out $100 if they win. On the flip side, odds with a plus sign (underdogs) show how much a $100 wager pays. So the Trojans at +150 pays out $150 with $100 risked.

USC Props

Another popular bet you can make on the Trojans — or in this case, any Trojan — is a player prop.

Player props are bets on the stat line of a player at the end of the game.
