The Buffalo Bulls have a new look coming into the 2024-25 college football season, following the hiring of Pete Lembo as head coach. Previously a special teams coordinator for the South Carolina Gamecocks, Lembo leads a Bulls’ squad that is listed as +2500 longshots on the MAC Championship odds board.

After opening the season at home against the Lafayette Leopards, the Bulls head to Missouri to take one of the top teams in the SEC, the college football betting power ratings, and the 2025 College Football National Championship odds. The Bulls kick off their in-conference schedule against Northern Illinois on Sept. 21, followed by MAC games versus Toledo, Western Michigan, and Ohio.

Here’s how you can bet on Buffalo this season, and some key things to know.

Betting on Buffalo Bulls Football

There are lots of ways to bet on the Buffalo Bulls this CFB season. You can wager on the MAC futures odds note above as well as the team’s college football win total. The Bulls have an over/under win total of 6.5 on the top sportsbooks on the market.

You can also bet on Buffalo’s moneyline, point spread, and over/under in all of the Bulls’ games throughout the 2024-25 college football season.

Betting Buffalo Bulls moneyline

Buffalo football went 3-8 on the moneyline last season, making the Bulls a tough pick for anyone betting the Buffalo moneyline. Per our Bet Labs database, betting Buffalo in every game last season moneyline produced a -47.1% ROI and a loss of $519, if your unit size was $100 per game.

So how does a moneyline bet work? Here’s how it might look when the Bulls take on the Akron Zips on Saturday, Nov. 2 at FanDuel or DraftKings:

  • Buffalo -280
  • Akron +230

The plus and minus signs stand for the favorite (-) and the underdog (+), making Buffalo the favorite in this game. A wager on the Bulls’ odds would mean you have to bet $280 to win $100. If you win, you get your stake back, plus $100 in profit. For the underdog, you risk $100 to win $230 on the Zips (plus you get your $100 stake back, if they win).

When it comes to betting the moneyline, it’s not recommended for bettors to lay huge prices such as -500 odds. However, including a moneyline like that is common as a leg in a parlay. You can use our parlay calculator for a better idea of what your potential payout would look like when you build a parlay with the Bulls’ moneyline in it. You can also add CFB bets to your bet slip via our college football odds page and even compare parlay prices on different online sportsbooks to assure you get the best odds.

Betting point spreads in Buffalo Bulls games

Betting on the point spread in a Buffalo Bulls football game is another common choice when making CFB bets. With the point spread, you’re betting on the margin of victory, with the favorite getting a handicap. Since the spread market adjusts based on the estimated ability of each team, Buffalo should be around .500 against the spread each year, and that was the case last season when the Bulls went 5-6 ATS.

Here’s an example of a point spread bet for when Buffalo takes on the Kent State Golden Flashes to close out the regular season on Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Bulls have an implied win probability of 73.5% with an expected point spread of 10.5.

Here’s what the point spread looks like:

  • Kent State +10.5 (-110)
  • Buffalo -10.5 (-110)

There are two key things when looking at a point spread. The spread itself (10.5 points in the example above) and the odds (most often -110 for spread bets). In this example, Buffalo is a 10.5-point favorite, meaning the Bulls need to win by at least 11 points to cover the spread. If you bet $110 on them to cover the point spread and they do, you win $100 in profit, plus you get your $110 stake back.

Betting the total for Buffalo games

The over/under total is the third main sports betting market when it comes to CFB betting. The total is a prediction as to whether the total number of points scored in a game will be higher or lower than what the sportsbook has listed.

When Buffalo played Eastern Michigan on Nov. 21, 2023, the over/under total was listed at 37.5. If you bet the over, you predicted that the game would have 38 or more total points scored. For the under to win, you needed anything less than 38.

  • Over: 37.5 (-110)
  • Under: 37.5 (-110)

With a 24-11 final score, the under hit in this game. If you bet $110 on the under, you won $100, plus you got your $110 stake back.

Buffalo Bulls player props & more

The availability of college prop betting varies by state, and they’re unavailable in New York, which the Buffalo Bulls call home. However, if you’re in a state that allows for college prop betting, then Buffalo college football player props should be available. If you’re looking for prop bets, you’ll find sports betting markets for yardage over/unders for specific players (passing, rushing, receiving), touchdown props, and more.

While online sportsbooks offer far more prop bets for NFL betting, one of the most popular college football prop bet markets is Heisman Trophy odds. This is also known as a futures market as you are predicting something far in the future, like an award or a championship.

If sports betting isn’t legal in your state or college football props aren’t offered, PrizePicks is a great option to get in on the action. PrizePicks is regulated as DFS and allows you to predict if a player will have more or less of a specific stat when compared to the listed total. The more statistics you combine, the bigger the payout at PrizePicks.
