Florida State Seminoles Betting Preview: Seminoles Motivated to Step Up

The Seminoles have played to the level of their competition this season.

They tested the likes of Miami and Virginia and took down Alabama to open the year.

While we've seen them struggle against inferior opposition, the Seminoles should step up in this rivalry game with their bowl eligibility on the line. Aside from motivation, the Seminoles should be able to control this game in the trenches.

Offensively, they are a run-heavy team behind quarterback Tommy Castellanos and running back Gavin Sawchuk. The duo has led a rushing attack that has averaged five yards per carry.

They will be up against a Florida defense that ranks 60th nationally in yards per rush allowed.

Florida Gators Betting Preview: Homefield Advantage May Not Be Enough

As for the Gators, they come into this matchup after hitting rock bottom.

They are 3-8 on the year and came into last week's matchup as slight underdogs to Tennessee. They were blown out by the Vols at home.

It is unlikely we see them pick themselves up for this game, especially when they face an Florida State defense that has the tools to contain their struggling offense.

The Seminoles rank 21st nationally in yards per rush allowed and 59th in yards per pass allowed.

Florida State's defensive line could wreak havoc, ranking 16th nationally in sack rate. Gators quarterback DJ Lagway has been turnover-prone under pressure.

Florida State vs Florida Pick, Betting Analysis

The books make this game a coin flip, but it's clear which side has the edge.

Florida State should dominate the trenches on both sides of the ball, and that edge will only be amplified by the disparity in motivation for this matchup.

The Seminoles are playing for bowl eligibility, while the Gators are down and out.

Back the Seminoles to take home the Makala Trophy.

Pick: Florida State ML (-110, bet365)
