Eastern Michigan vs Kentucky Pick, Betting Analysis
Eastern Michigan losing outright to an awful Long Island team is a bad look.
The Eagles allowed 479 total yards and 5.1 yards per carry. They’re allowed 543 yards per game at eight yards per play through two games. They rank 129th nationally in Success Rate allowed and 133rd in EPA per Play allowed.
The defense doesn’t have enough talent to stop anybody, and I don’t think they have the horses to stop Kentucky.
Even if quarterback Zach Calzada is limited or doesn’t play, I still expect backup Cutter Boley to throw it around with success.
For Kentucky, this game will look much different than its game against Toledo, which has a really strong secondary and forced the Wildcats to move the ball on the ground.
While the Wildcats could easily rush for 300 yards behind several explosive rushes on Saturday, they also should be able to open up the passing game more, especially with a bye on deck. Eastern Michigan’s secondary can get tormented by anybody.
Kentucky is also in a good bounce-back situation after that tough home loss to Ole Miss. Hopefully, the Wildcats will wash away the stink from that game.
I also suspect Eastern Michigan won’t be able to run the ball, which will force Noah Kim into obvious passing situations. He’s already thrown the ball 63 times through two games, so we should see a pass-happy game script again.
Ultimately, I suspect Kentucky scores 40-plus on Saturday, while the pass-happy Eagles punch in a score or two late, clearing the Over with ease. I’m guessing this game ends in the mid-50s.
Pick: Over 45.5 (-110, BetMGM)
