Vanderbilt vs Nevada College Basketball Betting Preview
Vanderbilt and Nevada are a combined 8-0, and it's not as if all eight of these wins have come against low-level competition.
I'll start with the Commodores, who blew out Cal, 85-59. The Golden Bears are likely not an NCAA Tournament team this year, but they are coming off an upset of USC.
Vanderbilt guard and North Texas transfer Jason Edwards looks like he's ready for the step up in competition, while Boston College transfer Devin McGlockton is averaging a double-double. And don't forget Michigan State transfer AJ Hoggard, who is a veteran leader and has played on the biggest of stages in college hoops.
As for the Wolf Pack, they beat Washington and Santa Clara by double digits behind returning forward Nick Davidson and Cal Poly transfer Kobe Sanders.
So, how should you bet this game? I'm backing the Wolf Pack.
Yes, Vanderbilt has been impressive under new head coach Mark Byington, but this is still a brand new roster playing in a brand new up-tempo scheme. This will be their first game away from home against a highly experienced team.
Steve Alford's unit has four fifth-year players, K.J. Hymes is in his sixth year, Davidson is a redshirt junior, and they have two other graduate students or seniors.
While the Wolf Pack have a bit of a travel adjustment, the positive is this game isn't tipping off until 7:30 p.m. ET, negating the edge that a noon or 2:30 p.m. local time tip would give the Dores.
Finally, Nevada has an advantage up front, especially from a depth perspective.
I'll back the Wolf Pack against the spread.
Pick: Nevada -2.5 (Play to -5)
