Tennessee Basketball

At 7-1, the Volunteers head to upstate New York for this ACC/SEC Challenge matchup with Syracuse.

However, they have to be disappointed with how their Feast Week ended. They were undefeated after a monster win over Houston, but they ended up losing to Kansas in the Players Era Festival third-place game.

This is a great opportunity to bounce back against this Orange team, one that's a mixed bag.

I think the Volunteers are a much bigger threat than they were last season due to their depth, and their frontcourt has taken a major step forward.

They blend a unique amount of transfers and freshman, including Nate Ament, a first-year player who's second on the team in scoring.

The Vols still rely on a ferocious defense that often times gets them easy transition opportunities.

But unlike last season, they're a much more potent threat shooting the ball from deep, which is something the Orange struggle with. Also, Ja'Kobi Gillespie, the transfer from Maryland, has been terrific.

Honestly, we really don’t know what to expect from the Orange. They played Houston tight before falling by double digits against Kansas and by 31 against Iowa State.

Syracuse ranks 290th in 3-point percentage. While the Orange get to the line at an above average pace, they make just 57.1% of their attempts, good for second-to-last in college basketball.

The Orange do a couple things well, and that's mainly on defense. They rank eighth in 2-point field goal percentage and they have the size to match the Vols.

But I question if they have the depth that Tennessee has.

Tennessee vs. Syracuse Betting Analysis

Tennessee has won every game by margin, and every game they were favored in by at least 25 points.

I think Syracuse is benefiting from decent showings against Houston and Kansas, so instead, I'll ride with Tennessee, which should be favored by around 10.

We can inherent a lot of value backing Rick Barnes and the Volunteers.

My Pick: Tennessee -6.5 (Play to -10)
