Saint Joe's vs George Mason College Basketball Betting Preview

I’m fading one of my favorite teams — Saint Joe’s — in this matchup with George Mason.

I’ve watched every Hawks game this year, and I’m willing to lay up to five points with the Patriots at home in this spot.

The Hawks have looked shaky on the road in A-10 play, going just 1-4 ATS with up-and-down inconsistent performances.

Saint Joe’s problem is its tendency to start slow, which isn’t ideal against a team like George Mason. Tony Skinn has coached up an elite defense in Fairfax, stifling opponents by forcing them into long sets and tough late-shot-clock attempts.

Meanwhile, Hawks guard Erik Reynolds II thrives on tough late-clock shots. Although he’s lost his touch recently, he continues to chuck tough triples, and I don’t feel comfortable backing Saint Joe’s with him playing at his current level — he shot 3-for-10 from deep against La Salle, 1-for-8 against Loyola Chicagoand 2-for-7 against Duquesne.

George Mason also dominates the boards, turning opponents’ poor shot attempts into stops.

Sure, the Patriots aren’t an offensive powerhouse, but they’ve been fine in league play.

Most importantly, they tend to win these tougher matchups, even if they fail to cover big spreads against lower-echelon conference teams like Richmond or Rhode Island.

Ultimately, this is a crucial moment for Saint Joe’s and head coach Billy Lange. The Hawks need to rack up close to 20 wins to have any shot at a big tournament run.

It’s crunch time, and I don’t trust the Hawks against an elite defense.

I’m picking my spot and shooting my shot. I’m banking on the Patriots performing up to their current 11-1 A-10 record.
