Nicholls vs Kentucky College Basketball Betting Preview

Nicholls Basketball

The Colonels finished 20-13 last season, which marks the second campaign in a row reaching the 20-victory mark.

Nicholls will have a new roster in 2025, as its top six scorers from last season are no longer part of the program.

Head coach Tevon Saddler will begin his third year at the helm for the Colonels, and he'll have senior guard Jaylen Searles at his disposal. Searles is the top returning scorer from last year's team (6.5 PPG).

Baltimore, Maryland, native Trae English will be back for the Colonels, too. English averaged 6.1 points and 2.6 assists a night off the bench last season.

The Cats will attempt to build on a 24-12 season. In his first year as head coach, Mark Pope led the Cats to a March Madness appearance for a fourth consecutive campaign. From there, Tennessee defeated Kentucky in the Sweet 16.

The Cats enter the 2025 season as one of the best teams in college basketball, as they're ranked ninth in the nation. Kentucky has the second-best odds of winning the SEC (+270) behind only the defending champion Florida Gators.

The Cats lost a lot of key players from last year's team, including Jaxson Robinson, Koby Brea, Lamont Butler and Amari Williams. All of those players averaged 20 minutes or more and 10 points or more per game.

Pope did a great job rebuilding this roster through the transfer portal and recruiting landscape, though.

The Cats landed multiple key transfers, including Mouhamed Dioubate (Alabama), Jaland Lowe (Pitt) and Denzel Aberdeen (Florida). Additionally, Pope landed three top-35 recruits in Jasper Johnson, Malachi Moreno and Braydon Hawthorne.

Kentucky will return leading scorer Otega Oweh and junior Brandon Garrison.

Nicholls vs. Kentucky Betting Analysis

I'm very high on Pope's team entering the season.

As mentioned, Nicholls has a new-look roster with little experience playing as a group. The Colonels will struggle to get stops against this dynamic Wildcats offense.

Kentucky will pull away with a comfortable home victory and cover on Tuesday.

My Pick: Kentucky -30.5
