Creighton Basketball
Creighton heads into this game at 1-0, but its win was against South Dakota — and it was unimpressive at best.
Creighton did reload this year, bringing in only two returning players from last season's NCAA Tournament team. The Bluejays did bring in nine transfers and a top-50 recruit, guard Hudson Greer.
But this team is leaning on experience, as it's starting three upperclassmen.
That experience will help the Jays make a deep run, but their win over South Dakota did reveal vulnerabilities that need to be addressed.
Ryan Kalkbrenner will be difficult to replace, but the talent on this roster is better than last season's.
This Creighton team is typical of head coach Doug McDermott. He'll lean on veteran presence and offense, and in a hostile road environment, that'll be key.
Gonzaga Basketball
Gonzaga has been consistent under Mark Few. The expectations are always to reach the Big Dance and beyond.
While this season is no different, this is the Bulldogs' lowest early-season ranking in five years.
Gonzaga reloaded its depth this season, and it did so via the transfer portal.
Braden Huff is in his third year with the program, and he'll help orchestrate the new cohesion.
Mark Few will use his depth to tweak matchups against Creighton's motion offense, and the home-court advantage will also help squash any fast breaks from Creighton.
Creighton vs. Gonzaga Betting Analysis
This game is hard to read, and the spread makes it more difficult.
On paper, these teams are evenly matched, so 12.5 points is a weird line.
In the combined three games between these schools, the winning team has scored at least 83 points. But Gonzaga's game against Oklahoma is the biggest tale for us: It held Oklahoma to 68 points.
With Few's ability to slow teams down, I have a feeling this game might be a little lower scoring than the experts believe.
Creighton did allow 76 points to South Dakota, but Coyotes play at a very fast pace. This wasn’t necessarily about efficiency or lack thereof, but more about South Dakota putting up the shot volume to get to 76.
I think this game will be in the trenches, and I expect a lower-scoring game. I also think this game could be close, so I would have to take the points, but my confidence lies in the total.
