Clemson Tigers Betting Preview: On a Roll

With the ACC having one of its worst collective seasons in memory, it can be hard to judge the teams atop the conference. Duke is steamrolling through conference play, not just winning games but doing so in dominant fashion.

Clemson, likely the second- or third-best team in the ACC, is a clear step behind the Blue Devils, but it can be hard to place it among national contenders.

The Tigers haven't lost since Feb. 4, have not lost in regulation since Jan. 7 and have not lost to a team outside KenPom's top 100 all season long. Clemson has won five straight by double-digits, a streak broken by a Feb. 8 upset of mighty Duke.

From a gambling perspective, perhaps it's best to review Clemson's work against the spread. The Tigers are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games and 11-2 ATS in their last 13.

Four of their last six wins have bested the spread by more than eight points, a clear sign of a team strongly outperforming expectations.

Brad Brownell has built a team with a winning formula. Defensively, the Tigers are forcing opponents into the slowest average possession time in the nation, per KenPom.

Clemson makes everything difficult for opposing offenses, allowing the lowest assist rate in the ACC while forcing the highest turnover rate. And the Tigers do all of that while fouling at one of the ACC's lowest rates.

With four double-figure scorers, each with their own special skills, the Tigers can find any hole in a defense.

Plus, Clemson is one of the best all around 3-point shooting teams in the country, creating space to operate and the ability to score in momentum-building spurts.

Boston College Eagles Betting Preview: Struggles Continue

Forgive the tirade I'm about to spew: I'm an alum of Boston College. My freshman year began in the fall of 2009, fresh off a BC season that ended with a No. 7 seed in the Big Dance.

That remains the Eagles' most recent NCAA Tournament bid, now in their 16th year without reaching the promised land. Al Skinner was fired in 2010, Steve Donahue in 2014 and Jim Christian in 2021.

Earl Grant is in his fourth year on the job, and he's yet to go .500 in ACC play and is staring at a bottom-three finish in an 18-team, less-than-stellar ACC.

Yet, Field of 68's Jeff Goodman reported he expects Grant to return next season.

On the court, it's hard to see why that would be the case. The Eagles are 4-14 in the ACC and 3-16 against KenPom's top 130. They're 0-8 in true road games, with no wins against power conference foes on a neutral court.

BC has the worst offense in the ACC, seemingly by design. The Eagles shoot the 312th (!) best 2-point percentage in the country, compared to the 105th-best 3-point percentage.

BC is one of the most 3-point reluctant teams in America, ranking 328th in 3-point rate. This is a team that seems to have no idea where it succeeds.

The generous case for Grant comes via the school's NIL budget. A team that was plucky last season (over .500 for the year) was ravaged by the transfer portal. That's obvious with the talent remaining in Chestnut Hill, but Grant has shown no ability to win within the resources at hand.

It remains disheartening that Grant's successor at Charleston (Pat Kelsey) not only won more games and made more tournament bids at that school, but now also has a better ACC job (Louisville) and a team hovering near the top of the conference rankings.

Clemson vs. Boston College Pick, Best Bets

Based on my doom-and-gloom thoughts on Boston College, you can presume where this pick is going.

There's an added reason, beyond Clemson's massive advantages up and down the roster, to think the Tigers can waltz north and win big.
