Lakers vs. Trail Blazers Preview

A great trend to start us off with: teams that are favored in game 82 with a worse winning percentage than their opponent are 19-12-1 (63%) ATS since 2014-15. That’s as simple as, “If the bad team facing the resting team is good enough to be favored, there’s a good reason to back them.”

Portland has been competitive all year, and has some pretty good depth. The Lakers didn’t to start the year, and then the Luka trade took two players out for one.

The Lakers do not have a ton of versatility. So, with Los Angeles resting players having already locked up the 3rd seed, this bends towards the Blazers with a better developmental pipeline.

This also might genuinely be the last game of this group under Chauncey Billups, who is without an extension headed into the offseason.

With a young, plucky group in front of a raucous home crowd against a Lakers team just burning clock, I like Portland here.
