Los Angeles Lakers vs Charlotte Hornets NBA Preview

The Lakers are 7-3. Did you realize that?

It feels like it could be a lot more noisy in Lakerland, but having had a five-game winning streak snapped Saturday in Atlanta, they're in the second of a five-game road trip.

Still, tonight, they're fairly heavily favored against the depleted Hornets, who have dropped to 3-6 and are — again — very, very, very injured.

Charlotte has lost five of six after a 2-1 start to the year, and it feels like they're letting go of the rope.

The Lakers are also 7-3 against the spread, tied for the third-best record in the league, while Charlotte is 4-5.

We have a loaded injury report for this one, but it's clear that the Lakers will have the upper hand here in Charlotte.

Luka Doncic is active, and after missing three straight, Austin Reaves is questionable to play (groin) on Monday.

Gabe Vincent and LeBron James remain out for the Lakers, though both have been ramping up.

For Charlotte, there is still no Brandon Miller, LaMelo Ball, Grant Williams, or Josh Green, and Miles Bridges (back) is even questionable.

Lakers vs Hornets Betting Predictions, Analysis

Somebody has to score for Charlotte. And given what we've seen from the Lakers' defense, somebody will.

The Lakers are currently 22nd in defense, and Charlotte is even worse, yet they are still 11th in offense despite missing their top two scorers and creators for a significant portion of the year.

If Bridges actually does sit, this line will inch closer to 20, so we'll potentially get out ahead of it, backing Kon Knueppel to go over 16.5 points.

He has scored 30, 20, and 24 over his last three, all of which have been without Ball and Miller — the last without both of them and Collin Sexton, who is back tonight.

He also logged 40 points in his last game, 32 and 35 in the two games before, respectively, while shooting 23, 16, and 17 times from the field.

His three-point attempt rate is 64 percent, and he's shooting 40 percent on north of eight threes per game.

This doesn't need Bridges to sit, but obviously that would help.

Given Knueppel's recent play, he should at least be in range to clear this for the sixth time in eight games.

Lakers vs Hornets Best Bets

  • Kon Knueppel Over 16.5 Points (-113)
  • Kon Knueppel 20+ Points (+195)
