Los Angeles Clippers vs Golden State Warriors NBA Preview

The NBA Playoffs officially tip off next Saturday, while the Play-In Tournament begins Tuesday. However, don't tell that to the Clippers and Warriors. On Friday night, the Warriors cruised to a 103-86 victory over the Trail Blazers while the Clippers escaped Sacramento with a 101-100 victory over the Kings. With the Nuggets and Timberwolves heavily favored today, today's matchup has significant implications.

With a win today, the Clippers will secure the fifth seed and a first-round date with the Nuggets, while a loss will likely drop them to the seventh seed and the Play-In Tournament. The Warriors can only finish sixth or seventh. With a win along with a Timberwolves victory, the Timberwolves would finish fifth, the Warriors sixth, and the Clippers seventh.

The Clippers got out of Friday's game healthy, but Warriors' star Stephen Curry re-aggravated a right thumb injury that he suffered in January. Curry returned to Friday's game, but he scored just 14 points on 6-of-14 from the field in 27 minutes. Curry is listed as questionable for today's game. However, he is already talking about a Game 7-type atmosphere at Chase Center, so I would not expect him to miss today's game.

Curry has scored 20 points in nine of his last 12 games against the Clippers, going over 25 in seven of them. Since the Warriors acquired Jimmy Butler, Curry is averaging 27 points, 5.8 assists, and shooting 40.1% from 3. The Warriors are 21-4 with Curry, Butler, and Draymond Green in the lineup this season. However, they will be facing a Clippers team that has been hot as well.

The Clippers head to the Bay Area having won seven straight and 17 of their last 20 games. James Harden has been orchestrating the offense with 10 assists in five of his last six games while Ivica Zubac has been strong on the glass. However, it may be Kawhi Leonard leading the way once again.

Clippers vs Warriors Betting Predictions

The Clippers are 12-1 in the last 13 games that Leonard has played in. In that span, Leonard is averaging 25.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. Leonard has recorded at least 33 PRA in 11 of his last 13 games and he has gotten to 35 in four of his last six games against the Warriors. With a game of this magnitude, expect Leonard to raise to the occasion with an all-around performance.

Another clutch performer in today's game is Curry; however, I am backing him with assists rather than his points. Slowing down Curry will be the focus of the Clippers' game plan, which may open up other opportunities for his teammates. Curry has also had five assists in eight of his last nine games and in seven of his eight games against the Clippers.

Meanwhile, Zubac has emerged as one of the best centers in the league and has been consistent on the glass. He has pulled down 11 rebounds in seven of his last 10 games and in his last three games against the Warriors. I'll be backing him to complete this parlay.

  • Ivica Zubac 11+ Rebounds
