ClevelandCavaliers vs Miami Heat NBA Preview
Tonight, we get our first look at a rematch of last year's historically one-sided first-round series between the Cavaliers and Heat.
Tyler Herro won't be around to get picked on, word to the recently returned Darius Garland, but many of the same cast of characters are back.
Many, but not all. More on that shortly.
Cleveland hasn't looked wildly impressive if you've watched them, which is actually complimentary of how good they might be later in the year. They've also been trying to get healthier, Garland in particular.
Still, they've coasted to a 7-3 record to this point, and are riding a four-game winning streak, including a victory over the Bulls on Saturday — the second night of a back-to-back after winning in Washington the night before. They outscored Chicago 72-50 in the second half.
The Heat, who are 6-4, have won three of their last four and took care of business at home in a back-to-back against Charlotte and Portland on Friday and Saturday.
Miami has dropped to 13th in offense and sixth in defense but remains first in pace heading into tonight.
Cleveland ranks in the top 10 in all three categories.
Injuries look familiar for Miami: no Herro, no Bam Adebayo, and no Terry Rozier.
For Cleveland, Max Strus is out, and Larry Nance Jr. is questionable.
Cavaliers vs Heat Betting Predictions, Analysis
As mentioned on Buckets last night, both Joe Dellera and I liked Evan Mobley Over 17.5 Points, which has since moved to 18.5.
Mobley's points prop was my three-star play for today, which means I actually do like it, and Dellera's two-star.
Mobley has no Bam to worry about, and unless Vlad Goldin makes his NBA debut, the only center Miami will roll out there is Kel'el Ware.
Typically, I'd like this as a rebounding spot too, similar to Moussa Diabate on Friday or Donovan Clingan on Saturday (who inexplicably had five rebounds in the first seven minutes and finished with just seven), but with Jarrett Allen there, you never really know who's getting the boards.
It should be both, given that even in two wins, Miami was outrebounded by Charlotte 57-37 and by Portland 57-47 last week without Adebayo.
But we'll take the points.
Mobley's underperforming from an efficiency standpoint, and this is a nice positive regression spot.
He's shooting just 31.4% from three, which should rise as the year goes on while he continues to benefit from the Kenny Atkinson "big man bump" from beyond the arc.
Mobley has scored 24, 18, and 23 points over his last three games, hitting over 17.5 points in seven of 10 this season, and over 18.5 in six.
The aforementioned 18 and 23 came in the two games Garland played.
I like this up to 18.5, but if you want to tail, look for 17.5 if it's still out there.
