The Atlanta Falcons announced the benching of uber-expensive offseason acquisition Kirk Cousins on Tuesday night.

Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta's first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will start at quarterback for the Falcons' home showdown against the Giants on Sunday.

However, The SuperBook thought ostensibly nothing of the change. The Falcons were -9 before the Penix move and remain -9 in NFL Week 16 odds.

"We're in no rush to move the line down against this current Giants team," SuperBook risk manager Casey Degnon said.

Atlanta opened -10 Sunday night at The SuperBook. In the wake of a lackluster 15-9 Monday night win at Las Vegas, the Falcons dipped to -9.5/-9 a couple hours before the decision to bench Cousins.

While the spread didn't move on the Penix news, The SuperBook did lower the total, from 41.5 to 40.5, which is the consensus number at practically every sportsbook this evening.

There was some movement on the NFL Week 17 lookahead line, with The SuperBook shifting the Commanders from -3.5 to -4 against the Falcons when Penix will face Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, in Washington.

"We moved just a half-point, with the uncertainty of how Penix will look under center," said Casey Degnon, risk manager at The SuperBook.
