Commanders vs Packers Prop Picks, Preview
With all the talk about Jacory Croskey-Merritt's breakout performances at camp, followed up by an impressive showing in Week 1, it feels like Deebo Samuel's instant impact with the Commanders has gone under the radar.
We saw with the 49ers that Samuel has a unique skillset that allows him to be used across the offense in a variety of ways.
The term gadget player feels like a backhanded compliment, but Samuel really can do it all — look no further than his rushing touchdown against the Giants.
The key here is his ability as a pass catcher, whether that's lining up in the backfield or in a more traditional receiving role. The Commanders didn't ease him in in his debut. He had volume immediately; he hauled in 7-of-10 targets.
Now, it goes without saying that the Packers' pass rush will pose a lot more challenges for Jayden Daniels and the Commanders than the Giants did, but we should still see Samuel get a lot of volume and likely cover 4.5 receptions.
Pick: Deebo Samuel Over 4.5 Receptions (-110; BetRivers)
Jordan Love is not a dual-threat quarterback, but he can use his legs when needed.
His rushing yards line for TNF stands at 5.5 yards and I'm hammering the Over. It's a number he's hit in 18-of-36 games since replacing Aaron Rodgers as the Packers' starting quarterback.
Crucially, while he is far from a run-first QB, he does scramble when he needs to — we saw that with three runs against the Lions on Sunday.
What really boosts our hopes of hitting this Over is what we saw from Russell Wilson against the Commanders; the veteran QB used his legs on eight occasions.
Wilson is a more natural runner than Love, but there's not much in it and Wilson averaged 5.5 rushing yards per carry as he evaded Commanders pressure.
Love won't rush as much but on the few occasions he needs to, we can expect reasonable gains.
Pick: Jordan Love Over 5.5 Rushing Yards (-113; BetPARX)
Last season, the Commanders were strong against the pass, ranking third. As you'd expect, that translated to their performances against tight ends. While they did give up touchdowns to the position, they surrendered the fifth-fewest passing yards, averaging 39.8 per game.
We saw the Commanders' defense start well again in this department last week as the Giants' TE duo of Daniel Bellinger and Theo Johnson totaled two catches for 19 yards.
Meanwhile, the Packers' TE corps of Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave and John FitzPatrick only hauled in 4-of-6 targets for a combined 22 yards. Kraft led the group with two receptions, 16 yards and a touchdown.
With the arrival of first-round pick Matthew Golden, there's an extra mouth to feed in the Packers' packed passing corps and Kraft could see his targets drop.
Pick: Tucker Kraft Under 36.5 Receiving Yards (-115; Caesars)
