It's hard to believe that a Canadian team hasn't won the NHL Stanley Cup since the Montreal Canadiens did so in 1993, but there are some strong contenders in 2026 and beyond.

When will the Stanley Cup finally return to the country that's been craving it all these years? If you believe that'll happen before 2031, why not get some skin in the game?

To get started, sign up at Kalshi and trade contracts based on which Canadian team you believe could take home Lord Stanley's Cup before the 2030 NHL playoffs are over.

If you're new to Kalshi, you can use any of our links to claim our exclusive sign-up offer: Trade $10, Get $10! This welcome bonus can be used to be on a variety of different prediction markets ranging from sports to politics!

Overall, this is an exciting market as the NHL playoffs tend to display a lot more parity than the postseasons in other sports. What's more, there are five different chances to cash considering this market won't settle until June 30th, 2030.

Will the Stanley Cup be raised by a team from north of the border before then?

According to Kalshi, traders are predicting that a Canadian NHL team has an 80% chance of winning a Stanley Cup within the next five years. This is a stark contrast compared to when the market opened in June 2025, when just 48% of traders echoed this sentiment.

"Yes" contracts (currently trading for 70 cents each) are likely trading at a fairly high clip given the spread of time until the market settles, but that's far from a statistical guarantee when you consider it's been 33 years.

As such, there's also some shrewd value in buying a "No" contract (currently 40 cents) for those feeling pessimistic.

Which Canadian NHL Team Could Win The Stanley Cup In 2026?

Optimism is low heading into this year's playoffs, with only three of seven Canadian teams making the cut.

When looking at this season's "Stanley Cup Champion" market, the Edmonton Oilers presently lead the Canadian pack at just 7%. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators are slightly below at 5%, followed by the Montreal Canadiens at 4%.

There's a good reason behind the Oilers being the most highly traded Canadian team heading into this year's NHL playoffs. Superstar center Connor McDavid is widely regarded as the best player in the world, not to mention Edmonton has narrowly lost in the Stanley Cup Final in each of the past two seasons.

Which Canadian NHL Team Could Win A Stanley Cup Before 2031?

While the Oilers have the best chance to win a Stanley Cup of any Canadian team over the next two seasons, their competitive window may come to a close shortly thereafter.

Once that happens, the Canadiens (fittingly) figure to be Canada's next best hope. The Habs (a popular nickname used when speaking about this team) are a young team that officially established themselves as legitimate Stanley Cup contenders last season and followed that up with another superb season.

The Canadiens' championship path isn't as clear this season, but a stacked, youthful roster combined with a surplus of high-end prospects in the minors makes them an appealing team to trade on at the beginning of a five-year window.

Other Canadian teams — like the Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets — have reasonably strong lineups, but neither has shown the high-end upside to be seriously considered just yet. The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most popular sports teams in the world, but a down year after eight straight trips to the playoffs has left many unconvinced.

Overall, this market is still worth a look given the Oilers' current firepower and the Canadiens' future outlook.

When Will This Kalshi Market Conclude?

This market will close on June 30th, 2030, at the latest. It will close sooner and resolve to "Yes" if a Canadian NHL team wins the Stanley Cup in a prior season, but it will resolve to "No" if a Canadian team hasn't won a championship by the end of the 2030 NHL playoffs. The outcome will naturally be verified by the NHL itself.
