Yankees vs Astros Preview
The Yankees enter this series riding high in the midst of a six-game winning streak after completing a three-game sweep at Fenway Thursday over the rival Red Sox.
They are now heavy -160 favorites to win the AL East, as the division has been much less competitive than was expected entering the season thus far.
After finishing with a league-leading wRC+ of 119 in 2025, the Yankees have gotten off to a strong start offensively and appear to be a safe bet to offer one of the league's most productive lineups this season.
Despite holding the third-lowest BABIP in baseball, they currently rank sixth in wRC+ and ninth in runs scored per game.
The Yankees rank fourth in expected slug rate, fourth in expected weighted on base average, and sixth in BB/K ratio. Anthony Volpe is currently the only position player on the IL, but his absence has not necessarily been noteworthy given that Jose Caballero has replicated Volpe's modest 2025 production thus far.
New York has hit righties quite effectively thus far, as it holds a wRC+ of 115, slugged .416, and holds the fourth-best BB/K ratio versus right-handed pitching.
Will Warren has shown strong development thus far in his third MLB campaign, as he has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his five starts. He holds an xERA of 3.67 and a strikeout-minus-walk ratio of 23.8%.
While those marks are highly encouraging, he has been hard-hit 44.8% of the time, and holds well below-average whiff and chase rates.
The Yankees bullpen currently ranks 14th in MLB with an ERA of 3.99 and ranks 18th in strikeout-minus-walk rate.
The Astros have gotten off to an exceptional start offensively, but their lofty production has been wasted as the team has already allowed 150 runs, 20 more than any other AL team.
Houston holds a wRC+ of 121 and has slugged .434 with the second-best BB/K ratio in baseball. They hold a wRC+ of 121 versus right-handed pitching and have struck out just 19.3% of the time.
If Yordan Alvarez is able to stay healthy, he should be able to give Aaron Judge a legitimate challenge in the race for AL MVP. Alvarez had his greatest success last season batting second in the order, and fully committing to that plan this season has worked out extremely well for manager Joe Espada.
After finishing with an ERA of 5.34 in 2025, it continues to appear as though Lance McCullers's best days are behind him. He has pitched to an ERA of 6.20 and an xERA of 4.50 this season, and has been hard-hit 50% of the time.
McCullers was dominant in his first appearance of the season, but the three starts that have followed have been disastrous, as he's pitched to an ERA of 8.78 with a 5.35 xFIP and a strikeout minus walk-ratio of 6.5%.

Yankees vs Astros Picks
The Astros have played a ton of high-scoring baseball thus far, and that trend seems likely to continue Friday as they task McCullers with handling a red-hot Yankees lineup.
New York should be able to continue its strong stretch of production in this matchup versus a righty that allows a lot of hard contact, but this could be a decent spot to also target Warren coming down to earth to some extent.
Warren should prove to be better than average starter this season, but his underlying profile still suggests he has overachieved thus far, the Astros offer the toughest test that he has faced to this point.
DraftKings is offering a price of -130 for both teams to score three runs, and that bet appears to offer plenty of value.
Pick: Both Teams to Score Three Runs -130 (DraftKings, Play to -140)
