Angels vs Royals Preview
After a decent start to the season, the Angels are starting to look like the bottom-feeder we envisioned coming into the season, losing six of their last seven games. Their starting pitchers have gone five innings or fewer in four straight games, with no days off during that span, so their bullpen is taxed right now.
That's why they'll need a strong outing from Reid Detmers tonight. The talented lefty has been pitching well lately, going six innings in each of his last two starts, including seven against the Yankees, where he allowed only one run. The Royals have a 70 wRC+ against lefties (26th), so Detmers has a chance for a quality start.
The Royals are slowly getting on track after an abysmal start to the year, looking to complete the sweep over the Angels here. Their bats have come alive, putting up at least five runs in five consecutive games, including 12 last night.
Seth Lugo takes the mound tonight. The veteran righty is on quite a roll right now, going past the sixth inning in three straight games and allowing a combined two earned runs during that stretch.
He's a crafty pitcher who relies on precise location over stuff to get it done. When he's in a rhythm like this, it's best to just ride the wave rather than bet against him.

Angels vs Royals Prediction, Betting Analysis
I'm going with Under 4.5 in the first five innings here. I'm zeroing in on the first half of the game because I don't trust the Angels' bullpen.
This is a bet on Detmers (3.50 SIERA) keeping the Royals' offense at bay. It helps that Kansas City is much worse against lefties, as highlighted by their 26th-ranked wRC+ against them.
It's also a bet on Lugo while he's in top form. He hasn't given up more than two earned runs in a start all year long. The Angels have a 73 wRC+ (28th) in the last seven days, so it's a good spot for another quality start from Lugo.
Pick: F5 Under 4.5 (-115)
