Sonny Gray & Jesus Luzardo
Rays vs. Twins, 7:40 p.m. ET | Marlins vs. Brewers, 7:40 p.m. ET
For our first custom NRFI (No Run First Inning) selection today, we turn to Minnesota Twins ace Sonny Gray, who boasts an impressive NRFI record of 25–3, including a dominant 13–1 home NRFI split. These numbers add up to a remarkable NRFI record of 46–8 since 2022.
When facing batters the first time through the order, Gray has been proficient, allowing only a .206 batting average in 238 at-bats. Against the Tampa Bay Rays' hitters in previous encounters, Gray has proven himself, holding Randy Arozarena to 0-2, Brandon Lowe to 1-3 and Harold Ramirez to 0-3. Adding to Gray's advantage, it's worth noting that Arozarena is currently in the midst of a slump, managing only two hits in his last 20 at-bats.
Our second custom NRFI selection today features Miami Marlins ace Jesus Luzardo, who boasts a stellar NRFI record of 24–4, including an impressive 9–2 road NRFI split. He is now 39–6 to the NRFI since the start of the 2022 season.
When facing batters the first time through the order, Luzardo has displayed great proficiency, allowing just 48 hits in 235 at-bats for a .204 average. Against the Milwaukee Brewers' hitters in past encounters, Luzardo has consistently held them in check, with notable numbers such as Carlos Santana at 1-5, William Contreras at 1-5, Mark Canha at 0-6, and Willy Adames at 0-1. Additionally, Luzardo holds the advantage today as the Milwaukee Brewers have struggled in their last 29 first-inning plate appearances, managing only three hits.
