The Los Angeles Dodgers will roll out right-hander Jack Flaherty for Game 5 of the 2024 World Series, while the New York Yankees will counter with right-hander Gerrit Cole as hosts at Yankee Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET on FOX.
Let's get to my Dodgers vs Yankees Game 5 player props and my MLB picks for Wednesday, October 30.
Dodgers vs Yankees Game 5 Prop Bets
- Jack Flaherty Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+130, FanDuel)
- Anthony Volpe Under 0.5 Hits (+120, BetMGM)
- Aaron Judge Under 0.5 Hits (+165, Caesars)
Jack Flaherty Player Props
Flaherty should serve as an excellent candidate to back in this matchup.
In 28 regular season starts, the right-hander posted a 13-7 record with a 3.17 ERA and 1.07 WHIP.
His underlying metrics were equally strong, as Flaherty ranked in the league's top half in xERA, xBA, average exit velocity, walk rate and hard-hit rate. With that said, his greatest attribute was the ability to retire hitters via punchout.
Flaherty ranked in the 72nd percentile in chase rate, 91st percentile in whiff rate and 90th in strikeout rate.
Dating back to the regular season, he has recorded at least six strikeouts in 12 of his past 20 starts.
Anthony Volpe Player Props
If we are backing a solid performance from Flaherty, then a correlated outcome would be for some hitters to struggle for New York.
Enter Anthony Volpe, whom I want to sell high on after last night's grand slam.
He posted a .243 BA this season, and his analytics were even worse. Volpe ranked in the bottom third of the league in xBA, xwOBA, xSLG, average exit velocity, barrel rate and hard-hit rate.
The shortstop also ranked in the bottom half of the league in both chase and strikeout rates, which makes him a bad matchup against Flaherty.
Subsequently, Volpe is 0-for-4 against the right-hander with three strikeouts.
Speaking of right-handers, Volpe's average dropped even further when facing them this season.
Aaron Judge Player Props
Perhaps the most shocking aspect of this postseason has been the disappearance of Aaron Judge.
Through 13 playoff games, he possesses a mere .152 BA.
He's particularly struggled recently, failing to record a hit in three of the past five games.
These woes will likely continue against Flaherty, a pitcher against whom Judge is 0-for-3 in his career with three strikeouts.
Not only does he possess a 100% strikeout rate against the right-hander, but he also carries a troubling 77.8% whiff rate.
Like Volpe, it makes sense that Judge struggles specifically against Flaherty.
While the AL MVP doesn't possess many weaknesses, the one negative part of his game is his inability to avoid strikeouts. Judge finished the regular season in the 15th percentile in whiff rate and 35th percentile in strikeout rate.
