Legal sports betting in Maryland is right around the corner. The Old Line State will become the 21st state (including Washington, D.C.) to offer legal in-person and online sports betting, according to our sports betting legalization tracker.

While a go-live date hasn't officially been announced, all expectations are that Maryland bettors will be able to start betting on sports as soon as Nov. 21 and no later than Dec. 5.

Sports wagering regulations differ by state. Here are the most common betting markets that will or won't be available for Marylanders when sports betting goes live.

Age Regulations

  • 18+ for Esports, horse racing, and DFS
  • 21+ to place sports bets

Bet Types Available

Under House Bill 940, state betters can choose from 11 bet types within the coming weeks:

  • Exchange Betting
  • In-Game Wagering
  • In-Play Bets
  • Moneylines
  • Over-Unders
  • Parlays
  • Pools
  • Prop Bets
  • Single-Game
  • Straight Bets
  • Teasers

Most legal betting states offer these bet types, with the usual difference being the ability to place in-game betting on college athletes.

Additionally, exchange betting is a relatively new bet type that entered the U.S. market this year in New Jersey on Aug. 29. Prophet Exchange was the first legalized betting exchange sportsbook app to launch in North America which was followed by Sporttrade's launch in September. Expect betting exchange books like Prophet Exchange and Sporttrade to enter Maryland's new and highly-anticipated market in the near future.
