Mobile sports betting is live in Maine today with DraftKings and Caesars officially launching as of 9 a.m. Friday. The two sportsbooks are the only mobile betting apps available in the Pine Tree State.

The books will operate with the state's tribes and Caesars owns three of the four digital skins while DraftKings partnered with Passamaquoddy Tribe to become the second mobile operator.

At the moment, residents will only have mobile wagering available. No date has been announced for in-person wagering at the state's two casinos and its off-track betting facilities, but Chief Edward J. Peter-Paul of the Mi’kmaq Nation noted Caesars' "understanding of our State’s deep history with horse racing," in a joint press release about the launch.

Maine is the fifth state to launch legal mobile sports betting this year and DraftKings in particular has been heavily featured in neighboring states. DK is the only mobile sportsbook available in New Hampshire and is one of two available in Connecticut along with FanDuel. Of course, DraftKings is headquartered in Boston and live in Massachusetts and is one of five platforms with an application to operate in Vermont, which is expected to go live in January 2024.

According to SportsHandle, with its 10% tax rate, Maine could see up to $6 million annually in tax revenue from mobile sports betting.
