Two MLB teams headed in different directions meet for an Interleague series this weekend at Citizens Bank Park as the Philadelphia Phillies host the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.

White Sox vs Phillies odds list the Phillies as -195 favorites on the moneyline, with an over/under of 7.5 runs. For my White Sox vs Phillies prediction, I'll be targeting the first five innings (F5) over/under of 4.5.

The White Sox are coming off a rare win, but Chicago sits at the bottom of the American League with a dreadful 3-15 record. The Phillies have turned it around with three consecutive wins, but Philadelphia faces the new ace of the Chicago pitching staff in left-hander Garrett Crochet. Philadelphia counters with right-hander Spencer Turnbull, who's been stout himself in the early portion of the season.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox snapped a six-game slide in the second game of Wednesday's double-header against the Royals, winning 2-1 at home.

Chicago has yet to win back-to-back games this season, and Garrett Crochet will start the series opener.

Crochet has been a strikeout machine for the Sox, posting 31 Ks in four starts while allowing two or fewer earned runs in three of those appearances.

The southpaw defeated the Braves as a +160 home underdog earlier this month, 3-2, as Crochet tossed seven innings and yielded three hits.

However, in his last start at Cincinnati, Crochet suffered through a tough second inning, giving up five runs in a 5-0 defeat. Crochet still managed 10 strikeouts in less than five innings of work, but Spencer Steer's three-run, two-out double broke the game open for the Reds.

The Sox have a 0-6 record in series openers, scoring two runs across those games. The Under in the first five innings of Game 1 has cashed five times in these contests, as Chicago has been held scoreless through five in five of those contests.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies have been to back-to-back National League Championship Series and came up short in 2023 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Philadelphia has experienced some ups and downs early, starting 8-8 before a three-game home sweep of the Colorado Rockies.

The Phillies squeezed past the Rockies, 2-1, in the opener before a 5-0 shutout and 7-6 victory for the sweep. The final score was misleading as Philadelphia jumped out to a 7-1 lead before Colorado plated five runs in the eighth inning.

Despite all the offensive firepower in the Phillies' lineup, the team has scored 72 runs, which is the fourth-fewest in the National League.

However, the Phillies have allowed the third-fewest runs in the NL, which has helped them remain in the NL East divisional race early on.

Past the likes of Zach Wheeler and Aaron Nola anchoring the rotation, Spencer Turnbull is the third right-hander making a difference.

The former Detroit Tigers' hurler has turned into a solid pickup by posting a 1.80 ERA in three starts, while Philadelphia is 3-0 in those games.

Turnbull allowed one unearned run in his first two starts before giving up three runs against the Pirates his last time out.

Philadelphia is 4-0 to the Under in the first five innings in four home series openers this season, while the Phillies have allowed one run in this situation.

White Sox vs. Phillies

Betting Pick & Prediction

The numbers are very strong on both Chicago and Philadelphia's sides for a first five innings Under.

The White Sox offense has been poor, and Crochet has pitched well so far.

Meanwhile, Turnbull looks to continue his early-season success.

Pick: White Sox/Phillies F5 Under 4.5 (-132) | Play to 4 (+100)
